PTS Site Engineer

Morson are currently recruiting for a PTS Site Engineer based in Bristol for a 3 - 6 month contract.

Engineering
• Understand what you are building and proposed method of construction.
• Understand the engineering principles for the works to be constructed.
• Identify the need for Temporary Works and liaise with the Temporary Works Coordinator.
• Be responsible for setting out for line and level on the site, obtaining setting out details from the Construction drawings or CAD model.
• Take off materials in an auditable system and prepare requisitions, along with delivery schedules and material storage plan.
• Check accuracy of material schedules before calling off material (e.g. reinforcement, steelwork).
• Requisition and control hired plant requirements.
• Contribute to the development of Method Statements and Risk Assessments.
• Ensure the Inspection and Test Plans, and Quality Check Sheets are completed at the same time as the work to ensure that it is delivered to specification.
o Have detailed knowledge of Contract Specifications and requirements for compliance and accuracy
o Understand construction methodology and Develop / Approve relevant procedures specific to their area of works.
o Follow procedures for checking work as it progresses.
o Enforce ‘hold points’ in the plan of work.
• Ensure all works are completed in accordance with the design and specification.
• Ensure Design Drawings are marked up to reflect works completed as the works are finished.
• Review all procedures on a regular basis to ensure they are as efficient as possible.
• Ensure the ‘Permit to Work’ system on the site is complied with.
• Be familiar with LEAN procedures and contribute to daily meetings.
• Liaise with Design Team to resolve technical issues (Raise TQ’s or RFI’s).
• Able to understand new and innovative technologies.
Planning/ Programming
• Plan ahead for your section of works and determine resources required.
• Develop and monitor short term look-ahead programmes.
• Provide input and report progress to the project planner.
Financial Management / Systems
• Develop an understanding of the detail of commercial implications behind decisions.
• Work closely with the QS for your section of work.
• Understand the basic costs for labour, plant and materials.
• Monitor the accuracy of site reporting such as record sheets, site instructions etc. Ensure all relevant documents are completed at appropriate times.
• Ensure allocated cost for section is maintained or improved on.
• Understand the scope of works and attendances included in Subcontract orders, to support the management of subcontractors.
Quality Control
• Communicate quality policy and systems to subcontractors and suppliers and ensure they are applied.
• Produce and implement procedures to ensure that the works proceed in accordance with best practice and design.
• Supervise the on-site inspection process and ensure all inspections are completed on time. Ensure all check sheets are completed and filed appropriately.
• Ensure inspections are completed in accordance with Inspection and Test Plans (ITP).
• Identify problems and manage their resolution.
• Conduct surveys of finished work.
• Set up and maintain control points around the site.
• Keep accurate, legible and organised records of surveys & testing (e.g slump tests or cube results).
• Check that materials delivered are correct, are in good order and stored as recommended by the manufacturer or supplier.
• Check that completed works are protected from future activities
Health and Safety
• Be aware of and understand the requirements of VINCI Health Safety, Quality and Environmental procedures and site plans including Minimum Safety Standards and support the implementation of these and conduct all duties in a manner consistent with these.
• Manage subcontractors and suppliers to construct the works safely, being assertive in stopping unsafe working.
• Ensure that Task Control Sheets have been issued and are being followed.
• Produce / Approve method statements and risk assessments and ensure they are being followed throughout the works.
• Take a lead in the submission of Close Calls and Positive Interventions.
• Monitor and report on health and safety and incident management within their area of responsibility.
• Assist the business/project in achieving the objectives/targets set in the Taylor Woodrow Carbon Strategy within your specific work activities.
Record Keeping
• Keep an accurate and appropriate site diary.
• Measure and record ‘as built’ elements of the work.
• Keep accurate and appropriate records of all the stages of the works progress.
• Be responsible for calculating and recording the level of waste for construction material used on site.
• Assist with monitoring of productivity and resources (plant, material and personnel) for all activities.
Communication
• Engage with designers and specialists to develop conceptual and detailed solutions.
• Use specialist software to assist in project delivery for example 4Projects, making effective use of document control to manage distribution of information.
• Participate in team briefings when required.
• Participate in tool box talks when required.
• Participate in site induction process when required.
• Participates in knowledge share events, ensure Assistant Site Engineers / Operatives are made aware of relevant information.
BIM
• Understanding of the principles of Building Information Modelling (BIM), the requirements for BIM level 2, the supporting documentation and standards, and the barriers of implementation. Appreciation of the value of high-quality data and principles of data management along with the controls required to protect the security of digitally built assets.
• Support the use of IT to achieve efficiency in service delivery. Understanding the technical, technology and interoperability requirements for BIM Level 2
