Principal Engineer - Configuration Management

Our client is seeking Principal Engineers with skills in Configuration Management and Change Management, for contract positions offering hybrid working with 1-2 days per month needed on-site.

They will apply their subject matter expertise and domain experience to support submarine programmes through the formalised application of configuration management to support system requirements management, verification and validation activities.

They will provide subject matter expertise and advice to other functional and capability areas to support overall project delivery and performance.

  • The Principal Engineer will be able to understand and report the programme status for engineering activities, identify problem areas and implement recovery plans. This will include the management of any consequent change embodiment activities.
  • The Principal Engineer will have a working knowledge of the major benefits of Configuration Management across industry and be aware of potential process improvements relevant to their team.

CORE DUTIES

Provide specialist knowledge and subject matter expertise in Configuration and Change Management. Identify the need for, communicate, and maintain Product Lifecycle Model (PLM) and Task Management tools supporting the entire engineering lifecycle. Understand and articulate the impact of change on other areas of the submarine platform.

Ensure change evidence is comprehensive, captured within the PLM and requirements management tools and has been endorsed by the appropriate level of authority.

Support the documentation of domain knowledge and be able to pass on information and expertise in order to help grow the knowledge base within appropriate business teams.

Provide technical guidance to other engineers and support the engineering management team in planning and controlling Change and Configuration Management activities.

To liaise with both internal and external customers as required ensuring that their requirements are adequately supported and that their needs are fully considered and incorporated where appropriate and agreed.

To provide realistic programme status, identify problem areas and implement agreed recovery plans.

The Principal Engineer - Change Management will be responsible for, or provide input, in the form of change requests and change notices with supporting evidence to the following typical key deliverables, dependent on the role and the place the project is in the engineering lifecycle:

  • Capture and agreed technical changes in accordance with company and programme processes.
  • Deliver process documentation generated, captured, configured and controlled in accordance with company processes.
  • Deliver design changes and documentation generated, captured, configured and controlled in accordance with company processes.
  • Provide engineering LCM adherence for all deliverables and relevant input to project LCM activities.
  • Leverage configuration management experience and knowledge in both the tactical and strategic development of other engineers and relevant members of other supporting

KEY SKILLS / PROVEN ABILITY

  • Significant knowledge and expertise of Configuration Management toolsets process and practices in the defence, maritime or closely linked industry and the correct recognition of the context of their work within the overall product.
  • Knowledge of the systems engineering lifecycle with experience of operating in the phase relevant to the role and awareness of the entire engineering lifecycle.
  • Knowledge of Systems Engineering ways of working and lifecycles.
  • Relevant sector experience in comparable industry
  • Ability in use of the IBM DOORS toolset.
  • PLM tools
  • Ability in use of the JIRA and Confluence tools.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the Sparx Enterprise Architect toolset.
  • Knowledge of the Siemens Teamcenter toolset, preferably v11.
  • Knowledge  of the SAP ERP systems
  • CM2 (or CMII) certification from Institute of Process Excellence

ADDITIONAL

Due to the nature of the project all applicants must have worked within the Defence / Military industry within the last 12 months or be capable of obtaining Security Clearance (SC level minimum).
